Cherokee County offers a wealth of opportunities to get involved, from supporting families in need to joining civic organizations that work tirelessly to improve the lives of local residents. In this post, we’ll explore some of the standout organizations in Cherokee County that you can support through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word.

Why Cherokee County Is Special

Cherokee County is more than just a place to live; it’s a thriving community with a strong sense of togetherness. The county is known for its great neighborhoods, diverse restaurant options, and an impressive live music scene. But what truly sets Cherokee County apart is the community itself, driven by the many local organizations that help make it a better place. Whether you’re interested in feeding the hungry, supporting special needs programs, or advocating for children, there’s an organization in Cherokee County that aligns with your passions.

Key Organizations in Cherokee County

  1. Never Alone:
One of the standout organizations we’ve closely partnered with is Never Alone. This incredible group helps families in need throughout Cherokee County by providing them with essential groceries and clothing. What sets Never Alone apart is their focus on creating a humanized experience for those they serve, ensuring that individuals and families in need receive support with dignity. Each January, we organize a food drive to support their mission, collecting around 100 to 110 bags of groceries, which we then deliver directly to Never Alone. These donations are crucial in helping them continue their work, and they also accept contributions throughout the year to ensure they can feed those in need. If you’re looking to make a direct impact, joining us in supporting Never Alone is a meaningful way to do so.
  2. Papa’s Pantry:
Another essential organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity in Cherokee County is Papa’s Pantry. For those passionate about feeding the hungry, Papa’s Pantry offers numerous opportunities to get involved, whether through donations or volunteering. Both Never Alone and Papa’s Pantry are pivotal in ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry, and we’re proud to support their efforts. If you share this passion, these organizations are excellent avenues for making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
  3. The Optimist Club:
Moving beyond food-focused initiatives, we also work closely with civic organizations like The Optimist Club. The Optimist Club is known for its commitment to philanthropic missions, which vary depending on the leadership at the time. Currently, one of the clubs we collaborate with is heavily involved in raising funds and awareness for special needs programs within Cherokee County. Amy, a friend of ours, plays a significant role in this effort, dedicating her time to spearheading various community projects through her Optimist Club. Additionally, one of our team members, Alexandra Elliott, is also actively involved in another chapter of The Optimist Club. Together, these clubs invest both time and resources to support the community, making them a vital part of the local philanthropic landscape.
  4. Rotary Club:
Lastly, I want to share my personal involvement with the Rotary Club, where I’ve been a member for around five to seven years. Rotary International’s main mission has been to eradicate polio by distributing vaccines worldwide, and they’ve made significant strides in mitigating the disease. While this is an international effort, the Rotary Club also plays a vital role at the local level, working on projects that benefit our community directly. Some of the key projects include:
    • Colbert Square:
One of the key community projects we’re actively involved with is supporting the residents of Colbert Square. Located off Highway 92 in Woodstock, Colbert Square is an apartment complex primarily housing elderly residents. Many of these apartments are likely financially subsidized, providing essential housing for those in need. To help meet their needs, many residents sign up with Never Alone. Once a month, we, as Rotarians, collect boxes of mixed foods—ranging from canned goods and dry foods to meats—and deliver them directly to these residents’ doors. Whether it’s setting the food on their counters or leaving it outside if they’re not home, we ensure they receive the support they need.
    • Anna Crawford Children’s Center:
Our Rotary Club is deeply involved in fundraising efforts that benefit the Anna Crawford Children’s Center, which advocates for children who have experienced family violence. This can include physical and sexual abuse. The organization works to minimize the trauma these children face by coordinating with law enforcement and providing specialized counseling. One of their critical needs is gift cards for meals, which we help provide to affected families and foster parents.
